I wouldn’t be where I am in software development without my constant utilization of online platforms to learn from and improve my skills. In this tech journey, I have been constantly running to these platforms to get help to resolve bugs or get a deeper understanding of what I already know or what I have no idea of before. One of these platforms and in fact, the best that have been using is YouTube. What is YouTube?

YouTube is a video sharing service where users can watch, like, share, and comment and upload their videos. The video service can be accessed on PCs, laptops, tablets and via mobile phones.

YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine next to Google. People upload more than 100 hours of video per minute to YouTube. It's one of the best ways to communicate to a wide audience, whether you're promoting programs or providing information to students. Generally, here are a few reasons why YouTube is great.

1. Improve your Search Engine Optimization Video is one of the most popular content formats, and it’s regularly shared via social media. Google and other search engines tend to favor video, so sharing video via YouTube with good titles, descriptions and tags is a great way to improve your search engine ranking.

2. Visualization Video is a fast and effective way to convey your messages. People respond well to visual cues, and video is a perfect method for capturing the emotion and physical attributes of what you’re explaining or promoting.

3. Proper Demonstration Video is a great way to demonstrate concepts that are not easily explained in text form. Show your students through screen capture videos, live demonstration or even drawing on a white board.

4. Wider Audience Not only is YouTube the most popular video platform on the planet, videos themselves are highly shareable. Consider how often you see videos pop up in your Timeline on Facebook, or in your Twitter feed. How often do people email you videos? Video can be spread far and wide very easily.

5. Video is Mobile Friendly With many students using smart phones, video is a great platform to reach them. YouTube is highly optimized for mobile devices and the majority of students are already using it.

YouTube is a very powerful learning tool because it adds a dynamic element to the videos, improve knowledge transfer, demonstrate complex procedures, and help explain difficult topics. A long side, it can be particularly entertaining and I can re-watch videos as many times as I wish. One of the reason I love learning from YouTube is that, you can pause this videos and try to replicate what the teacher is saying. Most teachers on YouTube always try their best to explain this topic to a layman understanding. To conclude this, I will say YouTube is the best learning platform for me as a software developer.
